How scores are verified
LankaOBA replaces WhatsApp screenshots and spreadsheets with results everyone can trust. Here’s exactly what happens between the lane monitor and the leaderboard.
- Only approved games count
- Standings, averages, records and rankings are calculated from games an event organiser has approved. Scores still waiting for review can be shown as provisional on live standings, always labelled.
- Photos are read, then checked
- Scoreboard photos are read by an open-source vision model (Qwen2.5-VL) running on the organisers' own computer, so photos aren't sent to a third-party AI service. The model's answer must match a strict format, or it's rejected.
- Arithmetic decides, not the model
- Every game with frame-by-frame marks is re-scored using ten-pin rules, including the tenth frame. If the frames and the total on screen disagree, the game can't be approved until someone fixes it. When the model misreads the small mark boxes, frames can be rebuilt from the running totals on screen. They're shown as rebuilt, for a person to check.
- Nothing is guessed
- If a number can't be read it stays empty. Strike and spare percentages appear only for games where frame data was captured, and ball speed only when the scoreboard actually showed it.
- Duplicates are blocked
- The same photo can't be uploaded twice (including re-saved copies), and a bowler can't have two official results for the same game in the same round.
- Every change is recorded
- Approvals, rejections, corrections and disputes are written to an audit trail. A correction replaces a game but keeps the original.
- Your privacy
- You choose whether your profile is public. Original photos are visible only to the uploader and the event's organisers, and are deleted after the event's retention period.
There is no connection to Qatar Bowling Center’s scoring system or Lanetalk. If either offers an approved integration in future, results from it would go through the same checks and approval.
